Glossary: Tassel Parts

the material from which the tassel hangs. Everything below the hanger may be considered the body. |

| Head | directly below the hanger is the head. |
| Mould | Western tassels often have wooden parts, usually drilled with a central hole, that are decorated with fibre or painted. Mould pieces are probably part of the head. |
| Neck Waist |
Asian tassels often have a wrapped section which is considered the neck. The neck may be woven or knotted. Sometimes the join between head and skirt is considered the waist. |

| Collar | In Asian tassels, beneath/inside the neck is often another wrapped section we’ll call the collar. |
| Ruff | some extra decorative piece used to hide joins between parts. |

| Skirt | the fibre or fringe that hangs below the neck/waist. |
| Bullion | a highly coiled loop of fibre, often used as part of the skirt. |
The tassel skirt need not be loose fibre. A fun variant can be compose the skirt of cords ending in knots. The basic traditional Korean tassel skirt is built from tiny micro-bullions which leaves a tell-tale loop on the end of the twisted loops.
